Everyone associated with Robert Emmets are saddened to learn of the passing of Robert this morning, father of former players, Robert Paul, Brendan and Gerald. A Banker by trade, Robert was to use his financial talents as club treasurer for many years. He steered the club through many lean times and kept an eagle eye on the finances and ensured that we were always in a position to develop and improve the fantastic facilities that we all enjoy today.

He was a great supporter of our teams down through the years and had a particular interest in the St Patricks team that won Minor Championship Some players preferred travelling with Robert because he always had a nice new car and you were sure of getting to the venue in good time for a long warm up!

He was instrumental in setting up the weekly lotto which continues to provide much needed revenue for the club. Way back in the days when we were allowed to go to pubs on a Saturday night, Robert was a very efficient lotto ticket seller in The blue Room. There was no choice about buying one....if you were having a drink ...you were getting a lotto ticket!

He was a integral part of the legendary weekly quiz held in Randal’s. and will be sadly missed by the weekly quizzers. He would tolerate no heckling or questioning of the answers and you could be sure of a well placed ‘put down’ if you dared to argue with himself or Pearl.

Robert will not be remembered as a legendary hurler who scored a winning point in a Championship final, (although he did claim to be a stalwart for co. Leitrim!), he will be one of the unsung heroes. One of the people behind the scenes who kept the show on the road and these men and women should never be forgotten because without them, there is no club.

We send our condolences to the entire family circle at this time
