Michael Brogan R.I.P
The committee and members of Robert Emmets, Cushendun are saddened to learn of the passing today of former Chairman, Michael Brogan.
Michael, although not blessed with a great hurling talent, was an administrator par excellence. He was our Chairman for almost 20 years through what many would consider our most successful period in History. The highlight of his tenure was undoubtedly being at the helm when The Emmets made it to the Senior County Final in 2000. Many players will recall some of his rousing speeches which were always delivered with great enthusiasm and authority. ‘WIN, WIN, WIN’ was the battle cry as he implored the team to try and deliver a Senior County Title.
He was always a stickler for the rules and due process and on many occasions the lotto draw on Sunday evening in the Bay Hotel was delayed by a very minor irregularity. The draw would never proceed until he was 100% happy, which could have been quite a delay on some occasions.
Michael was larger than life character around the club and despite his ill health recently maintained a keen interest in club activities. He will be sadly missed but always remembered and highly regarded as a true and faithful Emmet.
