Sunday, August 6, 2017

The silence was deafening and the feeling of disappointment was palpable in the Cushendun dressing room following defeat by the narrowest margin against Gort Na Mona in the Junior Championship.Debutantes and seasoned campaigners alike were hurting following the thrilling clash today. Cushendun rallied from a five point deficit at half time ,this despite an opening goal in the first few minutes to give them an early lead. As many as nine wides in that first half playing with the breeze was probably the main reason we didn't kick on to get a result. However the manager reshuffled the pack at half time and we were soon back on level terms with the city men. The final quarter was neck and neck and it was impossible to pick a winner. Following a lengthy delay due to a nasty facial injury sustained by one of the Emmets ,the referee deemed six minutes of nerve jangling injury time which culminated in a "free in " from 25 yards with the last play of the game. Goal needed however the Gort a Mona defence were relieved to see the sliothar flashing just over the bar to leave a solitary point between the teams as the referee blew the final whistle.
We had a great squad of players yesterday and it goes without saying that our full attention must now go towards maintaining a healthy league position. Three tricky fixtures remain and on yesterday's showing, there is no reason why we can't pick up full points.
Following recent developments it was heartening to see the players pull together yesterday and put in such a good performance. Thanks to the supporters who made the trip and finally thanks to Everyone  who has been involved with this squad from the start of the season. We have great potential and our day will come....some  day the one point defeats will become one point wins .........
