Emmets secure final spot
Cushendun dug deep to overturn a 4 point deficit at the break to see off the mighty challenge laid down by Glenarm in today's championship semi final in sun kissed Cushendall.
A frantic first quarter saw Cushendun take a 1.4 to 0.1 lead before the men in green and black took their foot off the pedal to allow Glenarm get back on terms and creep ahead by 4 points going into the break.
The second half began with a few personnel changes on the Cushendun team. Whatever was said during the interval had the desired effect and the Emmets got down to business . When the sliothar smashed into the Glenarm net to level the game it was clear that this was the crucial part of the game.Thetackles were flying and the middle of the field was no place for the faint hearted. Cushendun held firm during this period and knocked over some classy scores and converted two frees to give a bit of breathing space going into the last few minutes. Glenarm threw everything at our defence in search of a goal which did not materialize and when referee, Vinny Boyle blew the long whistle there were scenes of great joy as Cushendun claimed their spot in the County final against Lamh Dearg.
This was a great team performance and although it would be hard to single out anyone in particular, the defensive unit of Marty J, RJ, Scally and Donal should be commended for holding firm when it mattered most midway through the second half.
Management now have three weeks to get the forwards firing on all cylinders and fill the players with self belief and confidence that they will need to lift the cup.
Well done today to all involved
