Shamrock Young Guns Blasted by
Bigger Benny’s
U16 League
St Brendan’s 4:24 Shamrock’s 0:05
As part of the Cushendun Festival Week the young Loughgiel team arrived for
what was to prove a very one sided event. The Shamrocks fielded this years U14
Feile Team with a few exceptions against the St Brendans U16 Team that won the
North Antrim Feile in 2008. The size and strength of St Brendans overpowered
the younger lads and with the forwards in top form the game slipped away from
Loughgiel very early on. Forty second of the start Aidan Corbett fired over an
eighty yard free closely followed by a point from play when Eoin Magee latched
on to a long clearance from Andy McLarnon. Loughgiel responded with two frees
from Conor Christie before St Brendans registered six unanswered points from
the camans of Donal, Mathew, Conleth (2), Declan and Eoin. Loughgiel closed the
gap to five points in the fifteenth minute and this would be their last score
of the half as St Brendans were in top gear by this stage. Eoin fielded
superbly before striking the sliothar between the uprights. A minute later
Declan had the ball in the net with some fantastic interchanging between Eoin
and Conleth leaving Declan the easiest of chances. James raised the white flag in
the eighteenth minute a minute later Declan received a short pass from Donal
and he put the ball past the Shamrock’s netkeeper. A major from Donal and
points from Declan, Eoin and Conleth before halftime put the game beyond the Loughgiel’s
young guns. HT Score:- St Brendans 3:13 Loughgiel 0:03. The second half saw the
introduction of Daniel, Jordan and Pearce but the relentless pace continued in
front of a large appreciative crowd. Points in the second half came from Declan
(2), Conleth (3), Jordan, Connor, Donal, Eoin (2) and Ruairi with the solitary
gaol being scored by Eoin when Declan hand passed overhead to Conleth and he
fed Eoin to finish off the game. Loughgiel added to their tally with two frees
from Conor Christie. FT St Brendans 4:24
