Cushendun V Cloughmills

Sunday, August 14, 2022
In what was played in very wintry conditions the mighty Emmets overcame the spirited Cloughmills side and advance to the semi-final of the Junior Hurling Championship. Cloughmills got off to the better start, going two points up to no score. Cushendun got back on level terms and went ahead, staying in front for the rest of the first half. The conditions were slippy underfoot and inevitably there were a lot of frees conceeded by both sides. Cloughmills were unfortunate to lose one of their fowards towards the end of the first half for a second bookable offence.

The second half was to be all Cushendun, with the breeze at their backs and with numerical advantage they pushed on and ended up winning on a 4-14 to 2-13 scoreline. The backs defended well and were unlucky to concede two sloppy goals, Niall Campbell sniffed out any danger and found his range with the puck outs in the second half. The midfield contingent smothered the threat of several of Cloughmills star players. Aidan Mort was the pick of the forwards, with a vintage display netting 4 goals and some excellent points. Paul graham worked tirelessly for the whole of the match and was ably assisted by the evergreen Brendan Mc Sparran and Dominic Mc Quillian.
